We Left It All Behind

cropped-group-women-matching-fabric1.jpg

We left it all behind.
Telling stories agog, narratives spewing out in fervent spirit
snippets of unbelievable possibilities,
outlandish moving hands
brimming with exaggerated sequences
and the avalanche of questions in our minds.
We laughed, we did
clothed in layers innocence
our resolute weapon for conquering this universe.
We knew with certainty
the narcissistic power of passion
to make all things pondered, potentially possible.

We left it all behind.
Strident voices of old
telling earnestly of things that could not be so
modulated tones aflutter with measured reason
and conscientious proverbial wisdom.
We ignored them all
the cautious tales to keep us slightly afraid
energised in a space potent with fraternities of friendship
leaden with mirth and wonder.
Corralled so perfectly we were
this was our world, the only one that mattered most.

The world we left behind.

This flows a like a sober melody, strong yet reflective.
